Rupert Porter
Seneca


Mr. Rupert Madden Porter, 73, husband of Shirley Mason Porter, of 201 Kathmaette Drive, Seneca, S.C., died Wednesday, November 4, 2009, at Cottingham Hospice House after a long illness.

Born on October 30, 1936, Mr. Porter was the son of the late William Earl and Alice Madden Porter. He was a home builder/contractor and businessman for over 50 years; owning and operating Rupert Porter Builders and V&P Grading. His passion was the sport he loved-stock car racing and the facility that he built and operated, Anderson Motor Speedway, Anderson, S.C., for over 47 years. He was a long-time member of the Hejaz Shrine, Seneca Masonic Lodge and the Scottish Rite; and a member of the Seneca Baptist Church Baracca (Men's) Sunday School Class.

In addition to his wife of 47 years, Mr. Porter is survived by daughter, Sylvia Porter of Seneca; brothers, Leon Porter of Burlington, N.C. and William Earl (Junior) Porter, Roger Porter and Tommy Porter, all of Seneca; and sisters, Edalene Kelly of Seneca, Pat Deaton of Walhalla and Genelle Tate of Lincolnton, N.C.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Porter was predeceased by brothers, Jerry Douglas Porter, Cleo Porter and Billy Harrison Porter.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 7, 2009, from Seneca Baptist Church with burial to follow in Oconee Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, November 6, 2009, at Davenport Funeral Home, Walhalla.

The family is at the home.
