I've heard from another driver that had recently gone to 600 racing that they are considering changing the tire for legends cars from BF Goodrich to another brand and type. Has anyone else heard this? If so have you heard what brand?

There will be a tire switch in 2010. Latest information I have recieved is that it is a Federal brand tire. In testing it has been faster on asphalt, not so good on dirt. Current plans, I have been told, are to mandate them on asphalt beginning March 1 of 2010, and allow dirt drivers to run the BFG's or the Federals in 2010 until they figure out how to make them work better on dirt. I've been told it looks more like a racing rain tire than a DOT tire, thus the dirt issues.

Thanks for the answer. Since I'm running on asphalt the Federals should help me out.

I also heard the tires are about $10 cheaper per tire so that will save little bit of money.

Federal brand is all I know. I dont know any history about them so hope they build us a good tire. As a rookie Legends driver I dont need tire issues this year got enough other stuff to worry about

I checked on federal tires and what I found is that they are made in China. The tires I saw looked like they would be a good tire to run. Let's hope so.

I looked at Federal's website and they are very actice in motorsports so that lightens my worries but didnt see any oval racing stuff. I will give them the benefit of the doubt for now but watch me have a blow out first race now.

If the style of tires I saw on their website are the same style that we will be running they should be pretty durable. It looks like they are designed for drifting. As you know drifting will eat some tires up, so straight oval should get alot better wear and traction out of them. We can only hope.

that is true we can only hope they will last. I hope they will last longer than the old BFG tires. I never ran on the BFG since this is my first year in legends but sure hope we get a long life out of them

I doubt they will last longer than the BFG's. They are softer, and tests show they were faster, meaning better grip, relating back to softer...meaning faster wearing.
Hopefully they find a better tire for us to use in the dirt, they tested poorly off tar. If nothing else, we get to use the BFG's for another year

I wonder if the Bandolero's be using the BFG's or the Federal tires next year

I haven't heard anything about the Bando's, but they will probably stay with the BFG's.

BFGoodrich is re-tooling their entire line. Word is that they wanted an extra $50 per tire to keep making them, as they have greatly reduced their tire line, thus began the search for a new tire
