Southern Pro Late Model Series suspends remaining 09 season

Commerce, GA - - Much to the regret of the Southern Pro Late Model Series officials, the series will suspend the remaining 2009 season. "We hate it has come to this but with the economy the way it is and race fans losing their jobs and without as much money to spend on entertainment and race teams being short on cash we feel we have no other option," said Southern Pro Late Model Series owner Vince Whitmire. "We want to thank the race teams, drivers and fans who supported the series." Whitmire plans to resume the series when the economy picks up. "Car counts and fan counts are down everywhere and everyone is having a tough time right now," adds Whitmire.

The co-sanctioned events scheduled with the ASA Late Model South Series will keep their dated but under the ASA Late Model South banner.

They made a good effort, but there's just too many late model series in GA.

Vince was one of the pushers, trying to solve the biggest problem in asphalt late models - and that is motors, with every track/series having different specs - and I hope his efforts will continue and succeed.

In dirt late models, you can run your car with almost no changes, in Southern All Stars, Tenn. Thunder, SRRS, Battle of the Blue Grass, Lucas, WoO, etc., nationwide. This leads to big car counts, fan interest, and races every weekend paying $5K, $10K, and often $25K or more. Eldora's Dream pays $100K.

Asphalt LMs need to get the rules unified.

Vince spent the entire off season trying to get the tracks using the same rules in the southeast. The promoters talk a big game of unity but when it comes down too it, they're not willing too.

I as well thought Vince was one with great rules and cost cutting measures just too bad the economy and the amount of series in the southern region hurt. Hope you guys come back stronger than ever.
