Stanley “Stub” Fadden, 76, passed away earlier today. Stub entertained fans in New England for over six decades racing in everything from a flathead coupe at Thunder Road to the NASCAR Camping World Series East.
Stub loved short track racing and it showed.

Very sad news. I always enjoyed watching the "old guard" race and Stub was an old-school guy. I remember working in TV in the Northeast when Mike and Stub were racing together (the Grandfather/grandson team) and thought that was the coolest thing.
My condolences to Mike, Travis and the entire Olsen/Fadden family as well as to the crew, friends, fans, teams that raced with and against him, and all who knew him.
He will be missed for sure but never forgotten.

Legendary Racer Stanley “Stub” Fadden Passes Away

Stanley “Stub” Fadden, 75, passed away earlier today. Stub entertained fans in New England for over six decades racing in everything from a flathead coupe at Thunder Road to the NASCAR Camping World Series East.
Stub loved short track racing and it showed.
His remarkable career began in 1961 and included over 230 victories in the US and Canada. He won Championships at Vermont’s Thunder Road, Catamount Stadium, and Milton. In addition, he won a track championship at Mount Laurier, Quebec, was a triple crown winner at Cayuga Speedway, and a two-time winner of the prestigious Milk Bowl at Thunder Road.
In what began as the NASCAR Busch North Series, Fadden was a fan-favorite. He accumulated four wins and was part of the only grandfather/grandson team in the series. He announced his retirement from full-time competition in 1998 at the age of 65, but went on to compete in a handful more races alongside his grandson, Mike Olsen. Fadden was the recipient of the Sportsmanship Award in 1990, and was bestowed with the NASCAR Dedication award in the late 90s.
Fadden was inducted into the NEAR Hall of Fame in 2003.
Sympathy cards can be directed to his wife Charlotte Fadden, at P.O. Box 427, North Haverhill, N.H. 03774. Funeral services have not yet been finalized.

My prayers are with Mike and his entire family. Stub was a true racing legend, one that reached as far as my team in NC. I had a crew chief at MHR in 1999 that had worked for Stub. I heard a lot of great racing stories about Stub that year. God Speed Stub.

Oh this is SO sad! We met Stub back in the mid 90's and found him to be so down to earth and easy to talk to. He never made you feel like you were just a fan. We ended up meeting at a lot of sponsor locations and autograph sessions where he always made sure to autograph whatever my daughter (who was really little at the time) gave him. I have some wonderful pictures of him as well.
The racing world has lost a great driver, but the world has lost a great man.
My sympathies to the family.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the Fadden family! I never saw stub race. But, I have been a fan of Mike Olsen's since 1999.

In my early years racing Stub Fadden, his family, and the employees of "Fadden Automotive" helped and suported me during my time spent at Riverside Speedway. How proud I was to let people know that the legend I worshipped as a young boy in the stands at Thunder Road for many years,allowed me and my race team in the late 80's and early 90's to advertise his business's name on our LMS.
In more recent year's myself and my family have had the pleasure of racing against the Fadden Racing family, and look forward to doing so in the future.
We will miss you Stub!!! Thank you for being my friend!

To the Fadden and Olsen families my sincere condolences. It was a pleasure knowing Stub and watching him compete for many years. My personal fondest memory was in 2004 at the Milk Bowl when Stub made the race at the age of 70. That was a special weekend. Mike, we know how much your grandfather meant to you and want you to know that no one will ever take those fond memories. Stub was a graceful and kind man. He will be missed. Dave Parker

To Stub's whole family, I'm very sorry for your loss, ( for everyone's loss ) My name is Kevin Hockman and I don't know if stub ever told you the story of how he painted his car blue back in 1971 or 1972? but heres what happened, Me and my mother and father used to go to thunder road all of the time and see stub in the pits, He even painted my mothers 1966 pontiac lemans competition orange for her and had to keep touching up the paint because I would accidently scratch it with my bicycle, originally the car was gold and he painted it orange, her nick name was babe, or skeeter, or elly, anyway when I was 5 or 6 years old the doctors did a spinal tap on me and told my parents that I had spinal meningitis and thought I would Die or something so stub Asked me what color to paint his car and I told him blue, and low and behold he rolled out his nova and it was painted blue, That was really cool to a six year old!!! Then about 2 weeks later the doctors came back and said it was a miracle cure? We moved to long island, NY and I must have told every kid in school about the great stub fadden ( my hero ) now I moved back to vermont (Danville) and I go to thunder road all the time, I wish I could have talked to him again before he passed!!! Somewhere my mother still has photos of me in the pits posing with stub from back then, What a great Man He truly was!!! When I went to the time trials the other day for the upcoming milk bowl and saw the #71 Bobby Dragon come out It took me back to the times when I was a Kid, I kinda day dreamed that stub was coming out onto the track with his #16, I am now trying to sell some of my stuff to maybe get a dwarf car or street stock to go racing, I have a simulator that I race on but when I see mike olson and the boy's roll out with those ACT cars, I go out of my mind, I have to go racing now!!!
